Air on Broadbeach stands on the historic site of the 1950s Lennon’s Broadbeach Hotel, once the tallest building on the Gold Coast. The new 37-storey tower, designed by Ian Moore Architects, maintains the site’s mid-century aesthetic with an understated yet textural design and iconic yellow facade. Built in 2003, it originally featured vertical and horizontal louvres for thermal comfort and privacy control, a pioneering solution for its height. However, the harsh coastal environment necessitated a robust replacement for the horizontal operable louvres.

Leveraging our extensive market knowledge and proven credibility, we collaborated directly with the Body Corporate to address the unique challenges of this oceanfront site. The corrosive coastal environment and unpredictable high wind pressures required a durable, engineered solution. Our commitment to unmatched competence drove us to design a louvre system that not only met the aesthetic and thermal requirements but also ensured long-term resilience.

Through continuous collaboration and innovative solutions, our design team developed several prototype iterations. We rigorously tested these prototypes to withstand the demanding 7Kpa wind load. The final design incorporated vertically oriented Louvreclad Oxford Series® 150mm elliptical solar shading blades. This configuration optimized glare reduction on the western elevation and provided a robust, engineered solution capable of enduring the coastal conditions.

The installation process was carefully managed to meet the project’s strict timeline and quality standards.

Transforming a Coastal Icon with Modern Elegance

This project is more than a refurbishment; it’s a testament to Louvreclad’s commitment to elevating the built environment through meticulous design and engineering. The new louvre system has redefined the building envelope, providing enhanced thermal comfort and privacy control while standing resilient against the harsh coastal elements. Air on Broadbeach continues to be an architectural icon, now fortified with a modern, durable louvre solution.
