The Redland Hospital Multi-Storey Carpark was developed in partnership with Metro South Health and the QLD Government, adding 1,000 parking spaces to support the hospital’s expansion. Mode Design’s “Earth to Sky” concept inspired a distinctive façade that balances architectural innovation with structural integrity. The design incorporates Louvreclad’s Caprice Series modular sun blades, custom Barossa Series aluminium battens, and Polaris Series perforated aluminium panels, finished in diverse powder coat colours to represent the transition from earth to sky.
Chosen through community input, the façade design reflects Redland’s unique identity and the natural beauty of its surroundings. The “Earth to Sky” concept captures the shifting colours of the local sky, creating a visual connection between the built environment and the landscape. The design draws inspiration from a ship-like form, symbolising movement and strength, while integrating seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Working closely with Morgan Corkill of MODE Design and other project stakeholders, Louvreclad delivered a façade solution that elevates the car park’s modern infrastructure. Vertical Caprice Series blades, tailored to each level, create a striking feature that seamlessly integrates aesthetics with performance.
The façade’s unique blade arrangement posed engineering challenges, requiring innovative solutions. The Caprice Series blades progress in depth across six levels, starting with Caprice Series 184 at the base and culminating in Caprice Series 864 at the top. This unconventional approach, inverting typical structural principles, ensured both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
Louvreclad’s in-house engineering team developed a proprietary channel system embedded in the concrete slabs, providing a level substrate with multiple fixing points. This eliminated on-site drilling, mitigated slab variation risks, and enabled an efficient installation while ensuring compliance with Australian Standards.
The successful installation of the Caprice and Barossa Series screens delivered a façade that is both visually striking and structurally sound, driven by our precision and attention to detail. The solutions ensured every level aligned with the design vision, offering long-term value through engineered design that promises long lasting durability and aesthetic appeal. Throughout the installation, safety and regulatory compliance were prioritised, with a detailed focus on wind loads, seismic considerations, and long-term durability to ensure a robust, sustainable structure.
The Redland Hospital car park façade exemplifies how innovation and expertise can transform infrastructure. The use of Louvreclad Caprice Series blades enhances the car park’s utility while seamlessly connecting it to its natural environment. We turned the “Earth to Sky” vision into an exceptional, functional reality with precision and expertise.
