Best performing mechanical louvres and sun screening systems

FJMT and Mirvac’s new iconic 28 storey OVO building in Green Square Town centre is a sustainable residential building which demonstrates clever mechanical design and façade construction.  This ensures low operational energy consumption, while providing optimal solar access and natural ventilation to maintain a good quality indoor environment.
Louvreclad worked closely with Mirvac on this project to provide the best performing mechanical louvres and sun screening systems to enhance and optimise the design of this ellipsoid shaped building.
Seventeen different colours reflecting the surrounding environment were specified to make up this iconic and complex façade. Although the scale may be large, the attention to detail and careful consideration of colours resemble a well-designed piece of contemporary jewellery. Within this well thought out design, Louvreclad designed, engineered, supplied and installed Louvreclad Caprice Series® 334x45mm Vertical Sun blades, specified in two colours providing feature screening to the south west Ebsworth St Elevation.
Vulcan Series® 145x45mm rhombus batten screens specified in three different finishes also provide continuous vertical screening across the three buildings.
Nexus Series® Standard Louvres were selected for the roof top plant screens to provide good ventilation and zero vision screening of the plant equipment.
Barossa Series® Cantilevered Roof Batten Awnings provide a halo at the top of the building, a ring of stunning burnt orange that completes the bespoke façade.

Bespoke Designs require detailed Engineering and Planning

When designing and engineering mechanical louvres and feature screens for a building of this height, careful consideration needs to be given to the structural bracing and design construction of the systems to ensure there is no reverberation and that all the fixings meet the sometimes-extreme wind pressures. On occasion, wind tunnel testing may also be required. To ensure the success of your design, we would recommend getting in touch with the Louvreclad technical team at design stage.
All in all, a successful and stellar example of how Louvreclad’s bespoke solutions can be integrated seamlessly into even the most complex of façade designs.
