An oversized custom designed Polaris Series® perforated aluminium Banksia tree has been installed over custom multi-coloured aluminium battens and reaches its branches across all eight levels of this car park building.

The winning design was selected by the community of Logan and titled ‘Our journey as one big family tree’.

The Banksia tree is native to Logan and was selected to represent all the people and cultures that have come together to reside in Logan.

"We wanted a design that best reflected the diverse and unique Logan community, recognising the many different cultures coming together as a family and sharing the same journey through life,” says Noelle Cridland, Executive Director of Logan and Beaudesert Health Services.

Louvreclad enjoyed the challenge of bringing this community inspired perforated aluminium design concept to life.

The initial brief called for a full-height, non-climbable, slab-to-slab, balustrade-rated aluminium batten screen with a minimum 50% Free Open Area to meet carpark natural ventilation requirements under the BCA.

Structural connection details for the Louvreclad custom aluminium batten screen, Polaris Series® perforated aluminium tree and signage were to be designed, detailed, and engineered to meet all relevant Australian Standards.
Louvreclad’s project team maintained good collaboration with MODE’s lead architect Morgan Corkill and Woollam Construction from early stages through to completion.

Louvreclad has experience in bespoke car park screens and were able to offer trusted design & engineering expertise to ensure that all the connection details provided adequate structural support, with careful consideration to mitigate any wind noise and vibration.

One of the key challenges was ensuring all the custom designed brackets for the tree lined up with the battens. Consequently, coordination and set out of this giant tree puzzle was critical. This became especially important for some of the smaller Polaris Series® branches. The perforated aluminium design had to be altered slightly, with Louvreclad making sure to maintain the design intent.
Great collaboration between all involved has resulted in a highly successful outcome and an architectural work of art!
