Sustainability

As specialists in aluminium fabrication, 95% of Louvreclad’s products and bespoke façade solutions are fabricated from aluminium, with a small selection of louvres fabricated from colour-coated steel.

Louvreclad is committed to providing sustainable solutions for building facades. In conjunction with our suppliers, we are working to deliver low-carbon green aluminium louvre and façade solutions throughout Australia.

Sustainable Aluminium

Aluminium, the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust, is strong, durable, flexible, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant. It's also 100% recyclable, with 75% of all aluminium ever produced still in use. Aluminium can be recycled endlessly without losing its properties, saving 95% of the energy needed to produce new metal. When precisely designed and engineered, aluminium can last 100-120 years. Louvreclad offers low-carbon aluminium options for all extruded aluminium solutions, ensuring sustainable and energy-efficient choices.

Passive cooling is the use of intelligent facade design to reduce a building’s heat gain and increase heat loss.

Natural ventilation and solar shading are essential tools for sustainable architectural design.

Louvres are vertical or horizontal slats designed to admit airflow and defend against rain. They are often installed into openings of buildings as part of a natural ventilation solution. They can include adjustable configurations that allow occupants to control the amount of light, air, and heat entering their space. By harnessing the natural flow of wind, they allow for cross ventilation, creating a breathable and naturally cooler building. This simple sustainable solution for managing internal climate reduces the energy consumption of heating and cooling systems.

Horizontal and vertical sunshades are typically designed with depth and configuration to suit the orientation to the sun at various times of the year. Shading the glazed areas of buildings reduces solar heat gains and creates a more comfortable internal environment while also reducing the requirement for air conditioning. This combination of natural louvred ventilation and solar shading lessens the reliance on mechanical ventilation systems, which use energy to circulate air. With an overall reduction of energy loads, there is less reliance on electricity to cool the building, lowering the emission of greenhouse gases.

Embodied Carbon

With the use of Life Cycle Analysis tools (LCA), Louvreclad is working with our key aluminium suppliers to audit the processes from the production of aluminium, through to the fabrication of façade elements, right up to installation, to assess where we can reduce our overall carbon footprint.
